Kanpur EV Manufacturing Park: Uttar Pradesh’s ₹700 Crore Leap to Lead India’s Electric Vehicle Revolution

Kanpur EV manufacturing park is set to redefine Uttar Pradesh’s industrial landscape with a ₹700 crore investment under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision 2030. Announced on June 16, 2025, this ambitious project by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will span 500 acres near Bhimsen, strategically located along the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). Designed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the park aims to position Kanpur as a cornerstone of India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, fostering indigenous manufacturing and strengthening local supply chains. The initiative, part of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, will include units for producing electric motors, chassis, steel parts, lithium-ion batteries, chargers, and controllers, alongside a dedicated research and development (R&D) center to drive innovation.

The Kanpur EV manufacturing park is more than an industrial hub—it’s an economic catalyst. By integrating an EV components cluster, it will empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups, creating thousands of jobs and boosting local entrepreneurship. Its proximity to the DFC ensures seamless logistics, with robust rail and road networks facilitating the transport of raw materials and finished goods. This strategic advantage positions Kanpur to compete globally, aligning with India’s goal of 30% EV penetration for private cars by 2030, as outlined by NITI Aayog. The park also supports environmental goals, promoting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions, a priority under the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy 2022.

This isn’t Uttar Pradesh’s first foray into EV infrastructure. The state has already sanctioned 207 charging stations under FAME II across cities like Lucknow and Kanpur, with 700 EV public buses operational. The Kanpur EV manufacturing park builds on this momentum, complementing initiatives like the YEIDA EV park. Social media is abuzz, with posts on X praising the project as a game-changer for Uttar Pradesh’s economy, with hashtags like #KanpurEVPark and #MakeInIndia trending. The R&D center will foster advancements in battery technology and EV components, potentially attracting global players like Tata Motors or Ola Electric.

The Kanpur EV manufacturing park is a bold step toward making Uttar Pradesh a leader in India’s EV revolution. By creating jobs, supporting startups, and promoting sustainable manufacturing, it promises to elevate Kanpur’s global standing. As land acquisition progresses, this project could inspire other states to follow suit, driving India closer to its net-zero carbon goal by 2070. For now, Kanpur is poised to power the future of mobility with innovation and opportunity.
