Hitesh won the men’s 70kg category at the tournament in Foz do Iguaçu. He was supposed to fight England’s Odel Kamara in the final, but Odel got hurt and couldn’t fight, so Hitesh got a walkover and the gold medal! India also grabbed six medals total—one gold, one silver by Abhinash Jamwal in 65kg, and four bronzes by other cool boxers like Jadumani Singh and Sachin. Hitesh told The Times of India he almost quit boxing in 2022 because his family didn’t have enough money. Can you imagine? Growing up in Jhajjar wasn’t easy for Hitesh. His family wasn’t rich, and boxing needs lots of training and good food to stay strong. He used to practice in local rings, probably getting sweaty and tired, but he kept going.
