Hey, you guys, I just read about Soham Lal UPSC AIR 235, and it’s like the coolest story ever! Soham Shailendra Lal, a 24-year-old from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, got All India Rank 235 in the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024, and he’s part of a super awesome family where his grandpa and dad were IPS officers! He did it without any fancy coaching, and his story’s all over the news, making everyone so proud!
Soham’s grandpa, Chhotelal, was a big-deal IPS officer in Uttar Pradesh who retired years ago, and his dad, Shailendra Lal, is the SP City in Azamgarh right now. Growing up with such cool role models, Soham always wanted to do something big. At first, he dreamed of doing an MBA, but then he met this super inspiring officer, ADG S.K. Bhagat, who told him to try UPSC. That’s when Soham decided to go for it! He studied at Delhi Public School in Noida until 2017, then got a fancy economics degree from Hindu College in Delhi. But studying for UPSC wasn’t a piece of cake, especially when the COVID pandemic hit.
When COVID came, Soham was stuck at home in Jalaun, his hometown. There were no coaching classes, so he taught himself using online stuff like videos and notes. He said it was tough because he tried UPSC three times before and didn’t make it, which probably made him super sad. But he didn’t give up! He studied day and night, reading books and newspapers, and his mom, dad, and sister kept cheering him on. On his fourth try, he finally cracked it on April 22, 2025, getting AIR 235 out of 1,009 people who passed! That’s like beating lakhs of others who took the exam!
Soham’s dad told News18 he’s so proud, and the whole Azamgarh police department is throwing a party for him. His grandpa’s picture is probably smiling down from heaven! People on X are going wild, saying stuff like, “Soham’s a legend for keeping the family legacy alive!” (@bstvlive, @kgs_live). Lukmaan IAS, where he practiced interviews, posted that he’s their star student (@lukmaanias). Soham said his dad and grandpa’s stories about helping people inspired him, and now he wants to be an IAS or IPS officer to make a difference too.
I think Soham Lal UPSC AIR 235 is so amazing because he didn’t let failures stop him. Coming from a police family must’ve been cool, but it’s also a lot of pressure to be awesome like them. He studied all by himself during COVID, which is like doing homework without a teacher forever! I told my friends at school, and we all want to be a little braver like Soham.
