Aryaman Varma is this super cool 18-year-old cricketer who just won the Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year award for 2025 in England! Aryaman’s the captain of Eton College’s cricket team, which is like a fancy school in England. In 2024, he took 51 wickets—yup, 51!—with his leg-spin bowling, and he scored over 300 runs too. That’s why he won the award, joining big names like Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler. He was so good, he got a hat-trick in a T20 match against Free Foresters! But it wasn’t always easy. Last year, he took 45 wickets and was in the top four but didn’t win, which must’ve been super disappointing. He kept practicing, though, and now he’s a champ!
Aryaman’s family is from Delhi, but he was born in London and lived in Mumbai for a bit, where he fell in love with cricket. His dad, Munish, played badminton for Delhi, and his big brother, Arnav, was a fast bowler until he got injured. Aryaman says Arnav taught him to love cricket, and his mom, Ekta, cheers him on. They didn’t have tons of money, so moving from Mumbai to London and playing at Eton was probably tough. Plus, being a net bowler for Delhi Capitals in the IPL for three years means he’s been working hard, bowling to stars like Axar Patel!
The coolest part? Kuldeep Yadav, the awesome Indian spinner, is Aryaman’s mentor! Aryaman told Times of India that Kuldeep’s like a big brother, always calling him with tips. Kuldeep said, “Just play lots of matches,” and Aryaman listened, playing for Surrey’s youth team for five years and now Kent’s second XI. He even played with Dubai Capitals, who won the ILT20 in 2025! Aryaman’s dream is to play for England in all formats and get an IPL contract.
